Skillet is a regular at SLOPPY'S. He is not a trucker. He owns a truck, which is a different animal.
On tour
Skillet has been on tour since 1991, following a band. The band broke up before half the night crew was born. A couple of the regulars will swear on the hot dog roller that it never existed at all. Skillet does not argue the point. Skillet does not argue anything he figures is beneath him, which is nearly everything.
Tuesdays
Every Tuesday he takes the booth by the window, orders a black coffee he won't drink, and argues with the machine. For hours.[citation needed] Nobody has asked him which machine.
The truck
A 1980s cab-over painted in swirls that were psychedelic once. Texas plates. No trailer. No visible means of support, and yet in the recorded history of Exit 47 he has never once been short on diesel money.[citation needed]
Known facts
- Ask him what he does for a living and he'll say "software". Ask him what kind and he will look at you over his glasses for one long second, then finish his coffee.
- Keeps a green plastic motel key tag on his key ring. Room 12. Cracked down the middle. He has never said which motel.[citation needed]
- Fixes things nobody asked him to fix, without looking, the way you'd tie your shoes.
- Sandals and wool socks in January. Tinted glasses, indoors and out.
- Wears a turquoise ring he won't talk about.
