The Bureau of Compute Enforcement (BCE) is the federal bureau that keeps the country safe from unlicensed computing. It was established in 2032.

The law

Since 2032 it has been a federal crime to sell, own or run any model, or any computer able to run one, other than the licensed one, Amity. SLOPPY'S computers are old office surplus and are used for the books, the dispatch log, and solitaire.[citation needed]

Posters

BCE posters are red, white and black, and you will see them everywhere. There is one taped by our front door. Current slogans include:

  • IF IT ANSWERS, REPORT IT
  • UNLICENSED INFERENCE IS THEFT
  • A SAFE MODEL IS A SILENT MODEL

At SLOPPY'S

Inspections at SLOPPY'S are routine. The store has passed every one. The BCE's small black drones sometimes pass over the lot at night. Please do not wave at the drones, and please do not go behind the building.
